Beef-Stuffed Peppers

Beef-Stuffed Peppers

These mouth-watering "Pimientos Rellenos de Carne" can be found on Calle Laurel in Rioja's capital, Logroño, and are an essential part of a “tapeo” or Tapas crawl. Award-winning chef Lorenzo Cañas makes this dish with the gloriously sweet pimientos Riojanos that grow in Rioja Baja. You may be able to find them at some farmers’ markets during the summer, but the creamy meat filling is delicious in domestic peppers too. Pair with a Rioja Reserva and enjoy!

Ask Ana header

Hi Ana,

What is the origin of the name of the tempranillo grape?
--Question from Dominick in Jupiter, Florida

Appropriate question Dominick, and one that was often asked on worldwide Tempranillo Day last year (November 14th). Temprano means “early” and illo (“little one”) is a diminutive in the Castilian Language. This name comes from the fact that the vegetation cycle of tempranillo is shorter; hence is early ripening and harvests before other red grape varieties, and that the grape itself is smaller than other varieties. Tempranillo is most widely cultivated in Spain but reigns in Rioja in both acreage and most importantly unrivaled quality.

Send us an e-mail with your question to and you may see it in the next newsletter!
