Rioja in the "Times:" Los Angeles and New York

Rioja is feeling the love coast to coast! The Los Angeles Times’ S. Irene Virbila recommended a fresh and vibrant Rioja to pair with your favorite pizza-pie in her article, “11 wines to enjoy with pizza, whether it’s meat lovers night or a vegetable pie."

In The New York Times’ article “A Storm Washes Away Old Ideas on Wine," Mr. DeLissio, longtime wine director at River Café, expressed that the joys of Rioja have opened his eyes, stating, “How great that you can get a 12-year-old aged wine for under $100!”

Wine Tip: Storing Open Wine

We’re not sure why you wouldn’t finish a bottle of wine, but we assume it’s possible! To store an open bottle to drink another day, cork it with its original cork or a tight-fitting bottle stopper and keep in the refrigerator. Corking and cooler temperatures will slow down the aging effects. This holds true for all wine types. For red wine, remove from the fridge at least one hour before you want to drink it. You will find that open whites, roses and light-bodied reds will last 1-3 days, while full-bodied reds will last 1-5 days. Bottom line: if it tastes good, drink it!
