Participating in the Expovina fair and a premium wine tasting for the trade press were among the most outstanding promotional actions scheduled by the D.O.Ca. Rioja in Switzerland, a traditional wine market of our Wine Region, which ranks fourth among importers (with almost six million litres in 2016) and has one of the highest average sales prices.

The Rioja Summit - Prestige Tasting premium wine tasting, run by the renowned wine critic David Schwarzwaelder, was held last 28 March at the Stucki Restaurant in Basel (two Michelin stars). The event brought together more than twenty trade journalists who had the opportunity to taste a selection of twenty premium Rioja wines, culminating in a pairing dinner in which five Rioja wines were matched with five dishes of Swiss haute cuisine .

The Expovina wine fair, held from 30 March to 6 April targets both industry professionals and end consumers. It includes a training space where the D.O.Ca. Rioja offered two seminars given by the educator Axel Eichhorst and organised two showrooms with wines from wineries which do not have an importer in the Swiss market. Thomas Vaterlaus, editor-in-chief of the prestigious trade magazine, Vinum, said that “it was a magnificent opportunity for more than 45 importers to come to the Rioja Lounge at Expovina because, although Switzerland is a mature market, there is still a strong interest in introducing new brands.”
