U.S. Wine Consumption Findings

According to Wine-Searcher, wine exports from around the world remain strong. While export volumes dipped slightly in the first quarter of 2015, the value of exports increased, the Dutch agri-bank Rabobank reports.


Key country figures include:

  • Spain: 14.6 percent rise in volume; 3.5 percent rise in value
  • Argentina: 9 percent rise in volume; 1.2 percent rise in value
  • Australia: 9.4 percent rise in volume; 10.7 percent rise in value
  • Chile: 9.9 percent rise in volume; 0.5 percent drop in value
  • France: 2 percent drop in volume; 6.3 percent rise in value
  • Italy: 2.2 percent drop in volume; 3.8 percent rise in value
  • New Zealand: 11.4 percent rise in volume; 10 percent rise in value

Rioja Travels the World

Last month, Wines from Rioja and Delta Air Lines kicked off an integrated promotional program, providing Delta customers a taste of Rioja in-flight and on the ground in Delta airport lounges. The partnership includes guided tastings, enhancing travelers’ Delta experience and immersing them in the beauty of the region. Global Traveler USA featured the program in a recent article “Rioja Wines Fly High with Delta Air Lines”, noting that Delta customers now have access to “some of the greatest wines in the world.”

Rioja Shines in the Keystone State

This fall, Wines from Rioja will launch an integrated, statewide partnership with the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB). Leading up to the PLCB partnership, Rioja will touch down in Philadelphia on August 10 for Yelp’s “Summer Social” to showcase a delicious selection of Rioja wines paired with locally-sourced summer bites. Wines from Rioja will also be the exclusive wine sponsor for the 3rd Annual Battle of the Burger, featuring some of Philadelphia’s best chefs. On September 15, the PLCB will host Rioja educational seminars and a walk-around tasting for trade in preparation for the official “Rioja Month” promotion in October.

Fleming’s and Rioja Pair Up

Fleming’s Steakhouse and Wines from Rioja have teamed up to give consumers a chance to experience Rioja wine and the beauty of the region firsthand. Fleming's is hosting a “Win a Trip to Rioja” sweepstakes that awards the grand prize winner airfare, hotel and spa accommodations, as well as tours of some of the region's historic wineries selected by Fleming's National Wine Director. All 66 Fleming’s locations across 28 states will feature handpicked Rioja flights and by-the-glass specials at the bar through October.

“King of Porc” Wins Trip to Rioja

The heritage pork event Grand Cochon just announced this year’s “King of Porc.” Chef Thomas Boemer from Corner Table in Minneapolis won the title and a four-day wine experience trip to Rioja. After touring ten cities, Grand Cochon brought together its ten regional winners for a nose-to-tail culinary showdown at the Viceroy Snowmass in Colorado. Celebrity judges, including Andrew Zimmern, The Potash Twins, Laura Werlin, Mike Isabella, Adrianne Calvo, Tyler Florence, Cristiano Creminelli and Viceroy’s host Chef Will Nolan crowned Boemer in front of 600 guests.

Wines from Rioja will participate in MS Walker’s September Portfolio Showcase, taking place on September 28 at the Boston Seaport Hotel.
