France, Italy & Spain Expected
Wine Harvests

According to Shanken News Daily, France wine production is expected to increase this year, while that of Italy and Spain production will see a decline. Government and trade groups from the three countries have released 2014 wine production forecasts. France’s Ministry of Agriculture projects 11% growth to 46.93 million hectoliters. Italy’s Associazione Enologi Enotecnici Italiani expects a 13.5% decrease, from 48.2 million hectoliters last year to 41.6 million hectoliters in 2014, partially due to wet weather conditions. Spain’s output this year is expected to decrease 26.3%, from 2013’s record 53.55 million hectoliters to 39.44 million hectoliters, according to Spain’s Ministry of Agriculture. Spain’s 2014 output will be closer to the county’s normal production (40.32 million hl in 2012, 40.9 million hl in 2011 and 39.3 hl million in 2010).
