For an off-the-beaten path getaway to Rioja, what three experiences in the region are not to be missed?

1. Hot Air Ballooning: the unequaled views are beyond magical!

2. The Wine Battle of Haro: for the ultra-adventurist.

3. UNESCO World Heritage Sites of SUSO and YUSO monasteries: for the history lover.

What is the most surprising fact that people don't know about Rioja wines?

They are made with HEART!! The vineyards largely remain in the hands of people cultivated with tremendous ancestral pride, heritage, respect and commitment to carry it forward.

Wine Tip: Storing Open Wine

We’re not sure why you wouldn’t finish a bottle of wine, but we assume it’s possible! To store an open bottle to drink another day, cork it with its original cork or a tight-fitting bottle stopper and keep in the refrigerator. Corking and cooler temperatures will slow down the aging effects. This holds true for all wine types. For red wine, remove from the fridge at least one hour before you want to drink it. You will find that open whites, roses and light-bodied reds will last 1-3 days, while full-bodied reds will last 1-5 days. Bottom line: if it tastes good, drink it!
