Tapas Crawl, Anyone?

Spaniards love to socialize with tapas and wine. The streets of the Old Quarter in Logrono are home to a bustling Tapas bar scene, with 50 taperias to enjoy within a few blocks. You may have to elbow your way into the bars, but it’s all worth it when you sample these unique small plates along with a glass of Rioja. Some of the local favorites: Roast sucking pig, skewers of chorizo sausage and grilled lamb in a spicy sweet sauce, wild mushrooms with garlic, fish cakes, and white asparagus coated with local Camerano cheese. Anybody else hungry?

What do you love about wine?
I love that you can have the same grapes grown in different regions, and the end result is so vastly different. My wine “aha” moment was when I was just beginning in wine PR and working with a terroirist, who tasted through three wines, using a similar percentage of three grapes, yet all were from different regions. The wines each were beautiful in expression, flavor and scent, yet were all so diverse.
What’s your favorite part of working with wine?
Getting to taste amazing wines from all over the world! And the people – there are some pretty interesting people who work in wine.
It’s your last meal…what would you eat and drink?
It depends on the season: for fall, it would be Peking duck paired with a New Zealand Pinot Noir or a Rioja Cosecha that would be delicious with the fatty duck.

Wine grapes are the most widely planted fruit crop in the world!

The amazing professionals and people I have been able to meet and work with throughout many vintages.

Chorizo from Rioja, Serrano ham, white asparagus, Riojan Menestra, a Napolean and a classic Rioja Reserva.
Share your favorite cool, but random wine fact. The Castilian language was created in Rioja. Tempranillo Blanco is a mutation; Maturana Blanca is not.
