According to Snooth, Rioja wines are unmatched when it comes to offering incredible value, with both excellent aging potential and a broad diversity in style. The Vibrant Rioja campaign accepted the honors after announcing one of the strongest U.S. wine sales results for the Spanish wine region, up nearly 18% in 2011. As Editor-in-chief Gregory dal Piaz pointed out, "with wine made in hyper-traditional and hyper-modern styles and all that falls between, Rioja is able to supply nearly all palates with wines of preference." Fortune magazine and CNN Money also reported the news.

nextgen rioja After three years of successful Grand Tasting events in New York, Chicago and San Francisco, the 4th annual events hit Florida this year on April 30 at the Intercontinental Hotel Miami. With strong ties to Spanish culture and wine, the Miami event will welcome on- and off-premise buyers, press and other wine trade from the region to meet and taste with top Rioja wineries and importers. This year's theme focuses on a "New Generation of Rioja Winemakers," kicking off with an exclusive seminar preceding the tasting.

header Industry News: Rioja is "Best Value"

industry newsIn a recent wine trends survey by Futureshift, wines from Rioja scored high in consumer and trade ratings correlated with awareness and wine purchase decisions. According to trade, Rioja is the best value proposition in the $10-$20 price range (45 percent), followed by Argentina (42 percent) and Chile (34 percent).

For the second year running, Rioja also leads in the $20-$50 price category, exceeding other Spanish and Italian wine regions, Burgundy and Bordeaux. Surveyed consumers sampled more Rioja than any other region of Spain this year.

rioja pour geniusAfter a five-month, nationwide search for the most knowledgeable bartender, first place goes to Charles Joly, chief mixologist at the Drawing Room in Chicago! Taking top billing, Charles won a five-day, all-expenses paid visit to Rioja.

With entries from over forty bartenders from around the country, competition was stiff. Second and third place went to Dylan Regan, bar manager at Jimmy's in Aspen, Colorado, and Alexander Caban, a bartender at Junction in Santa Fe, New Mexico, respectively.
