Meet Hector Sanz: Chef at Barraca NYC

Opening its doors in 2012, Barraca has brought authentic Spanish cuisine to the urban center of the world in New York. The variety of Rioja wines offered at Barraca, combined with traditional and lively Spanish tunes, makes patrons feel like they are dining along the Mediterranean coast.

What do you love about working with wine? I love the ability to pair wine with the robust flavors of our Spanish cuisine and the versatility the many varieties of wines gives us when we work in our Sangria lab.

What’s your most memorable wine moment? Opening a bottle of wine - or multiple bottles - with a group of friends while sharing a traditional paella!

What’s your favorite current wine trend? The growth of Rosés over the past few years has been tremendous; we've seen an increase in customers requesting rosés, especially during the Spring and Summer seasons.

What do you love about Rioja? I love the versatility of Rioja wines - reds, whites, rosés - to pair with all of our tapas and paellas.
